2016 – Married at Age 10… Vibya’s story
Little Vibya first came to Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital and Services Centre in 2015, bringing her heartbreaking tale of a troubled upbringing and extreme poverty, which led to her being married at just 10 years old as her mother could no longer financially support her. Her husband, one year older than her, was physically abusive while her mother-in-law treated her like a slave rather than a member of the family. It seemed that she was trapped in a life with no hope, and she was having suicidal thoughts before the age of 13.
Just when she thought life couldn’t get any worse, Vibya’s body began showing signs of leprosy. She was eventually brought to Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital and Services Centre where, miraculously, the care and attention shown to her by the staff began to turn her life around. Read more of her story here…
