Growing Mount Everest!

During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit last year, Nepal and China had agreed to jointly announce the height of Everest.  This has been of great interest to many people but especially climbers.  It is widely acknowledged that Everest moved along a few inches in the earthquakes a few years ago but as to its height, people were not too sure.

So, by Nepal for the first time measured Everest by using its manpower and resources in coordination with Chinese technicians and surveyors, amid great excitement and expectation.

On November 25 The Council of Ministers gave their approval to the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation to disclose the new height of Sagarmatha/Mt. Everest.

In Kathmandu on December 8th the updated height of Mount Everest (the highest in the world) was announced:

It is now 8,848.96 metres high.  It has grown by 86cm.  (nearly 3 feet)!
